Immune Cell Treatments
Immunotherapy is an emerging type of treatment that uses a patient’s own autologous immune cells to fight life-threatening diseases, such as viruses and cancers. This is important because the average person’s likelihood of developing cancer in their life is about 33% or higher, which increases as we age. As of 2023, there are now at least 6 FDA approved cell-based immunotherapies for cancer treatment with thousands of studies for treatments currently being researched every day.
One of the leading immunotherapies is called CAR-T cell therapy. By banking your immunity, healthy T cells are collected from your blood & stored. Preserved T cells can be modified with specific receptors to target cancer cells called Chimeric Antigen Receptors (CAR). These modified CAR-T cells are reintroduced which target cancer cells. The modified CAR-T cells attach to specific antigens on the tumors & kill the cancer cell.

NK Therapy
Natural Killer cells (NK cells) are white blood cells that destroy infected and diseased cells, like cancer cells. They’re also a type of lymphocyte, like B-cells and T-cells. NK cells can destroy harmful cells in the early stages, preventing viruses and cancer cells from spreading.
Technology
For immune cell processing, Imun uses the automated PXP® MCASS™ Immune Cell Processing System to separate immune cells from whole blood. ThermoGenesis, a pioneer in the field of FDA approved automated cellular processing, manufacturers both the PXP® & AXP® MCASS™ Immune Cell Processing System which we use for whole blood & cord blood processing. The PXP® MCASS™ System uses light, gravity, and an electromechanical valve system to gently isolate different cell components from whole blood within a closed-loop system which safely separates the immune cells while maintaining their health & viability. This system is not available for use at any other US-based cell banks. Without using the proprietary and automated technology, immune cells can only be extracted using the Ficoll manual method; thus, leading to a higher risk of contamination & cell quality.
Once the target immune cells are separated, they can be stored in our automated cryogenic cell storage system called BioArchive®. The BioArchive® is a state-of-the-art cryogenic cell storage system that is FDA approved to cryogenically preserve our client’s stem cells & immune cells in liquid nitrogen (-196° Celsius). The BioArchive® cell storage system is manufactured by ThermoGenesis, the same medical device company that makes our automated processing technology.
